Andy Nelson has been the Ministry of Justice CIO since September 2009, and will take up the role of CIO for UK Government alongside this post from March 2012. He graduated from Oxford in 1980 and has gained over 27 years business experience focussing primarily on IT and business change.
Andy held a Senior Management role for Asda and was appointed as a business unit Chief Information Officer in GE Capital in 1998 and subsequently Group Director for Strategic Change and IS at RSA Insurance from April 2003 to the end of 2006.
At RSA he was brought in by the CEO to be part of the new executive team to turn the business around and had overall group responsibility for Business Strategy, Information Technology and the Global Operational Improvement Programme (GOIP) where he helped to achieve their publicly stated targets of a 9% improvement in overall business performance and 20% reduction in operational expenses through delivery of the GOIP. Andy has also worked in consultancy for Andersen Consulting and Price Waterhouse, and most recently was running his own consultancy business in which he offered advice, primarily to major consulting firms and their clients on selling and managing major business and IT transformation programmes.Andy is married with three sons.
